Some pimps want young people to see sexuality as a triviality. To achieve this, they float the idea of “sexuality as a show.” This concept sensationalizes sexuality by putting sexual acts on display for others to see rather than done in private in an intimate setting. This leads young people to believe that displaying their body and sexuality is commonplace and that intimate boundaries are unimportant. Being exposed to this “sexuality as a show” also leads to believing that sexuality is typically used to appeal to and please someone else. It becomes more difficult to know our own desires and limits because they’re considered unimportant. From that point on, pimps can then more easily exploit young people sexually because they’ve influenced the way they view sexuality.
