When young people are initially exposed to sexual exploitation, it would seem to have many benefits: making money, feeling attractive and empowered, enjoying a party lifestyle and personal freedom, feeling safe within a seemingly supportive network, affection, etc. But as time goes on, things often take a turn for the worse: the benefits dwindle, the network gradually takes control, the young recruits get less and less money, the sense of freedom disappears and then the threats, fear and violence emerge. The benefits, though often short-lived do exist at first. This is one of the reasons why some young people are attracted by the scene, at least initially.
